US President Donald Trump on Friday signed an executive order suspending a sweeping new sanctions package targeting the Russian economy, informing Congress that the pause is in the national interest.
Named for South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, the measure had sought to accelerate restrictions on the flow of financial resources fueling the war against Ukraine.
The move comes one week after Trump said the United States had agreed to purchase diesel from Russia in an effort to lower global energy prices, despite the potential impact on Ukraine in the conflict, now entering its fifth year.
