President Donald Trump announced on Sunday via social media that an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia had taken effect immediately.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated his country would support an energy truce provided Russia reciprocated, noting it could mark a significant step toward ending the war.
Moscow has not yet confirmed the accord, and Zelensky reported that Russia struck a Ukrainian power plant in Kharkiv shortly after Trump’s announcement on Sunday.
The BBC’s Ukraine correspondent Dan Johnson reported from Kyiv, where residents confront another winter of power cuts that deprive them of heating, lighting, and even water.
