Although Bellingham played only 29 minutes during England’s Euro 2024 campaign, he started every one of the seven matches; his situation has evolved under the new England manager.
The 22‑year‑old missed two qualifying fixtures in September due to a shoulder injury and was not selected for the October international window, which included a qualifier versus Latvia.
He re‑joined the national team in November, but a lingering hamstring problem sidelined him from the March friendlies.
Tuchel’s relationship with Bellingham has attracted frequent criticism, notably when he labelled the player’s conduct during June’s loss to Senegal as “repulsive,” a comment he later apologized for.
In November, Tuchel announced he would review Bellingham’s conduct after the player’s reaction to being substituted in a qualifier against Albania.
Nevertheless, Tuchel was impressed by Bellingham’s display in Saturday’s World Cup warm‑up against New Zealand in Tampa, saying the midfielder has found a “sweet spot” ahead of the tournament.
Bellingham was handed the captain’s armband after entering the match at halftime and leading England to a 1‑0 victory.
“You can see Jude’s decisiveness and bite,” Tuchel said. “That’s his key trait, and despite returning from injury he is brimming with energy and delighted to be back on the field.”
He suffered his setback during a crucial phase of the season, encompassing the Champions League and Spain’s league title race, which was unfortunate for both Real Madrid and himself.
But you can see now that he is truly in a sweet spot; he returns fresh, eager to play, and in peak condition.
