Turkish President Erdogan Welcomes US-Iran Agreement as Major Step Toward Regional Stability]
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the recent US-Iran agreement represents a significant advancement in ending the conflict that originated from Israeli provocations on February 28, describing it as a moment when the region “breathed a sigh of relief.”
Following the Cabinet meeting, Erdogan emphasized that “the US-Iran agreement is a very important step in the war that began with provocations from Israel on Feb. 28.” He added that “our region, which has been on the brink, has breathed a sigh of relief.”
Erdogan expressed Turkey’s satisfaction with the agreement, achieved with Ankara’s contribution, stating it was a source of pride “on behalf of our region and all humanity.” He expressed optimism that the deal would pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the area.
The Turkish president confirmed that no Turkish citizens were harmed during the crisis and that efforts to “ignite new flames of discord among Turks, Arabs, Kurds and Persians” ultimately failed.
Regarding NATO, Erdogan affirmed that Turkey remains among the leading nations supporting the alliance’s peace mission. He noted that as Turkey continues developing its defense capabilities, it contributes to the alliance’s deterrence. Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s strategic role in NATO through its comprehensive military capabilities, geographical significance, and historical depth, which he said has increased regional and international interest in the upcoming Ankara Summit.
