Turner Speaks Strongly Against Memory of Secret Romance with Douglas

Michael Douglas disclosed in an excerpt from his memoir One Helluva Ride that he and Kathleen Turner maintained a secret romantic connection during the production of 1984’s Romancing the Stone. Actress Kathleen Turner has responded urgently to this claim.

The Fatal Attraction star shared an exclusive passage with People on Thursday, writing that before marriage he and his then‑wife Diandra Douglas were each engaged in an extramarital affair and “fell hard for one another,” beginning a relationship while promising to keep it private.

He explained, “The chemistry between the two was undeniable and many assumed we were together while shooting. We both initially denied involving anyone else—mentioning various films and press coverage—and later acknowledged the tension and intent to stay confidential.”

In his statement to People, Turner said, “Good heavens—what a fuss over something from forty years ago! I love Michael Douglas and look forward to reading the book.” She affirmed her admiration despite the allegations.

Douglas further clarified that, motivated by concern for his wife and child, they hid the relationship for three decades, keeping it invisible even from principal cast and crew such as director Bob Zemeckis and co‑star Danny DeVito.

According to Douglas, while filming Romancing the Stone, Kathleen and he rapidly formed a deep bond: “It was not a brief fling; the connection blossomed because of close collaboration, mounting pressures, mutual respect, and intense personal attraction. Much like any other man of that era, I was captivated by Kathleen.”

Earlier, during a set observation, Diandra began to suspect infidelity, informed Kathleen that the marriage remained legally intact, and urged caution. Respecting her hesitation, Kathleen held back, eventually ending the liaison and allowing Michael to pursue his previous partner, Diandra.
