A shooting early Sunday at a block party in Vienna, Georgia, left two people dead and 35 others injured, several critically, according to local and state authorities.
Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy confirmed at a news conference that the victims were two men, aged 21 and 23. The gathering, which drew hundreds of attendees, took place at the conclusion of Dooly County High School’s homecoming week.
Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public, though no suspects or persons of interest have been publicly identified, and a motive remains undetermined.
“We don’t want to presume as to what caused it,” said Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The wounded range in age from 14 to 51, officials reported, with most suffering gunshot wounds.
