U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz criticized Iran during this week’s UN Security Council session, stating that Tehran ‘will not silence’ the council after Iran’s representative alleged that council members were disseminating falsehoods regarding its recent attack on neighboring Gulf states.
“Let me remind you where you are,” Waltz told Iranian diplomat Amir Saeid Iravani. “This is the United States of America. This is the United Nations Security Council. You will not silence this body.”
Waltz’s comments were made during an emergency council meeting convened in response to drone and missile strikes that targeted Bahrain and Kuwait on Sunday, following new U.S. airstrikes against Iran.

During the session, Iravani contended that the council should not have convened and accused the United States, Bahrain, and other members of misinformation.
“Once again, the United States representative has employed falsehoods and disinformation to justify Washington’s unlawful aggression,” Iravani asserted.
He further dismissed the “unsubstantiated accusations levied by certain Western council members and the Bahraini delegation.”

“Instead of confronting the underlying cause of the crisis, they have disregarded the unlawful aggression inflicted upon Iran and attempted to shift blame onto the victim,” he added. “Their double standards and hypocritical conduct have stripped them of any credibility to admonish others,” Iravani emphasized.
On X, Waltz reiterated his stance.
“Iran will not silence us on our own soil,” he wrote. “That may be acceptable in Tehran, but not within the UN Security Council. We will speak the truth.”

During the exchange, Waltz presented what he described as images of the aftermath of Iranian attacks, including a destroyed family home in Bahrain, a hotel occupied by tourists, and a first‑responder building that he alleged was deliberately targeted.
“Are they lying?” Waltz questioned regarding the attack victims. “Is this hypocrisy? Is this what this council is here to condemn today? I ask the representative, are these fabrications? … I would say no.”
Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain’s foreign minister, stated that since February 28, the kingdom has endured a total of 808 attacks, comprising 203 ballistic missiles and 605 armed drones.
“These attacks deliberately targeted civilian facilities, critical infrastructure, and residential areas, resulting in the deaths of three innocent civilians and injuries to 465 others,” he said, refuting Tehran’s claim that its aggression is limited to military objectives.
Washington and Tehran have repeatedly accused each other of breaching a fragile ceasefire. On June 27, President Donald Trump announced that U.S. forces struck Iranian missile and drone storage sites, as well as coastal radar installations, after Iran violated the agreement.

The exchanges of fire began when an Iranian drone struck a merchant vessel off Oman last week, prompting a retaliatory response from the U.S. military, officials said.
“It is very possible that they will never learn! There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!”
