DUBAI — Officials from the United States and Iran are set to hold indirect technical talks on Wednesday in Doha, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, according to a diplomat briefed on the discussions.
The meetings will build on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed after the Lake Lucerne Summit. The MoU, brokered by Qatar and Pakistan, outlines a 60‑day cease‑fire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a timeline for a comprehensive settlement that includes Iran’s nuclear program.
U.S. envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff will not participate in the technical talks; they met with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al‑Thani on Tuesday. Both the United States and Iran have confirmed the delegation of officials to Qatar.
Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the Iranian team, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, will travel to Doha but has no plans for direct negotiations with the American side in the coming days.
The Qatari foreign ministry added that Kushner and Witkoff discussed the ongoing U.S.–Iran talks under the MoU framework and developments in Lebanon.
