The State Department is closely monitoring the developing situation and is deploying a disaster response advisor to the region to bolster ongoing relief efforts. Additionally, the Department will provide $500,000 in emergency assistance through a partnership with Catholic Relief Services. This funding will support emergency shelter, essential relief items, and critical water, sanitation, and hygiene services for affected communities.
The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu is coordinating closely with local authorities to locate and assist American citizens in the affected regions. U.S. citizens in Nepal requiring urgent support related to the flooding should contact the Embassy at KathmanduACS@state.gov. The Embassy strongly encourages Americans in the affected areas to stay informed by monitoring local news, adhering to instructions from local authorities, and enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at step.state.gov to receive vital safety and emergency updates.
