The U.S. government will not tolerate activities that threaten national security or violate immigration laws. The Department of State is committed to protecting the integrity of America’s borders, dismantling smuggling networks, and holding accountable those who profit from illegal immigration. Under a previously announced visa restriction policy, the Department will act against foreign officials and other individuals who knowingly organize, promote, support, or finance migrant caravans facilitating illegal entry into the United States. Anyone involved in such activities who applies for a U.S. visa or attempts to travel to the country will face enhanced scrutiny, potentially including visa denial or revocation.
Investigations show that certain individuals have recruited, coordinated, and directed large groups of migrants traveling through Central America and Mexico toward the U.S. southern border. Over the past week, the Department of State has imposed visa restrictions on more than 15 people implicated in organizing, facilitating, or promoting recent migrant caravans.
Unauthorized entry across the U.S. southern border is illegal and may result in arrest, detention, deportation, and a future bar on entering the United States. Individuals who facilitate or participate in such illegal activity may be subject to visa restrictions.
