Travelers seeking U.S. business or tourism visas will soon have the option to bypass extensive wait times by paying a $750 expedited service fee.
Beginning July 1, applicants for B1 and B2 nonimmigrant visas may pay this premium to secure an interview within 10 business days at specific U.S. embassies and consulates. This pilot program, which runs through December 31, is designed to provide a solution for applicants facing appointment backlogs that, in some regions, currently exceed one year.
According to a notice published in the Federal Register, the initiative is a response to a worldwide spike in visa demand ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Officials stated that the current period serves as a testing phase before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
This program arrives amid a broader tightening of entry requirements. Recent State Department measures include a pilot requiring visitors from nations with high overstay rates to post bonds of up to $15,000, while U.S. Customs and Border Protection has signaled increased scrutiny of tourists’ social media activity.
Those choosing the fast-track option must still pay the standard $185 processing fee. Availability will be limited to a select number of embassies and consulates, though the specific locations have not yet been disclosed.
Authorities emphasized that the $750 fee only accelerates the interview scheduling; it does not guarantee visa approval nor does it speed up the subsequent administrative processing time.
The pilot program is not available to citizens of countries participating in the visa-waiver program, which includes the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, Chile, Qatar, and most of Europe.
