The United States government has officially lifted its export restrictions on Anthropic’s most powerful AI models, the company confirmed.
Anthropic said late Tuesday that it will begin restoring access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 starting tomorrow, following notification from the U.S. Department of Commerce that the controls have been removed.
“We appreciate our users’ patience and thank everyone who helped redeploy the models,” Anthropic posted in a statement on X.
The announcement followed remarks from U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who said his department had been working closely with Anthropic to evaluate and approve the frontier models.
“Over the past two weeks, we have collaborated with Anthropic to review and approve Fable 5, ensuring alignment across the U.S. government and reinforcing America’s leadership in AI,” Lutnick wrote on X.
Last month, Anthropic abruptly halted access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after the Trump administration ordered a restriction on foreign nationals, including company employees, from using the models.
On Friday, the San Francisco‑based firm announced it had received approval to provide the models to U.S. organizations that “operate and defend critical infrastructure” and that it is working with the government to reopen access for the broader public.
