Police in the UK stated on Thursday that a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a critical incident involving a three-year-old boy at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a zoo located 32 kilometers northwest of Cambridge. The child was discovered in a crocodile enclosure and sustained serious injuries, though their condition was reported as stable.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed the toddler was hospitalized at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Authorities noted no further details about the injuries’ causation or the relationship between the suspect and the child. Investigations into the incident, attributed to “reports of an incident involving a three-year-old boy during which he ended up in the crocodile enclosure,” are ongoing.
“A 30-year-old man from Norfolk has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder,” the police force added, noting that specially trained officers were supporting the boy’s family at the hospital.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann stated investigators were identifying those present at the zoo during the incident. “We do not believe the man arrested and the child are known to each other,” she emphasized.
Johnsons of Old Hurst, described by its website as a family-run farming business with a butcher’s shop, farm store, tea room, steakhouse, and zoo housing over 100 animals—including lions, tigers, sloth bears, capybaras, meerkats, and crocodiles—remains closed for questioning.
