Prime Minister Andy Burnham welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Downing Street on Wednesday, as the Ukrainian leader seeks to reinforce European solidarity five years into the war with Russia.
During the meeting, Burnham pledged that Britain “would forever stand by” Ukraine, announcing an acceleration of air defence deliveries to bolster Kyiv’s defences.
The Prime Minister had previously committed to MPs that he would work to mend relations between Ukraine and the United States, ensuring Kyiv would not be left “empty-handed” in its hour of need.
The historic meeting at 10 Downing Street featured a full military ceremonial guard for the Ukrainian president, believed to be the first such honour for a visiting foreign leader.
