A three-year-old boy who was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure at a UK zoo has undergone multiple surgeries and now faces a lengthy rehabilitation process.
The child’s family has expressed gratitude to donors who raised over £25,000 to support his recovery. Since the incident occurred on June 18th at Johnsons of Old Hurst farm and zoo in Cambridgeshire, the parents have been residing at the hospital.
An update on the fundraising page revealed the family’s appreciation for the support received during this difficult time. They shared that their son has already undergone five surgeries and will require at least two more procedures. The family described the past two weeks as uncertain and unsettling.
Their statement indicated that while the rehabilitation journey remains uncertain, it will be a prolonged process. Financial contributions have helped cover expenses as both parents are currently away from work with no clear timeline for their return.
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but was later released without interview due to fitness concerns. The suspect reportedly has learning disabilities and was accompanied by carers during the incident.
Police confirmed the child sustained serious injuries from a crocodile attack. The family thanked zoo staff who rescued the child, specifically mentioning that co-owner Tracey Johnson entered the enclosure to save the boy.
Johnsons of Old Hurst praised the quick response of those present, noting the child was rescued within minutes and received first aid. Emergency services, including air ambulance, responded rapidly, and the zoo expressed gratitude to off-duty medical professionals and police officers who assisted.
The facility credited calm, immediate actions with making a significant difference in the outcome.
