An overnight Russian attack on Kyiv resulted in at least one civilian death and 16 injuries, according to Ukrainian officials, as Moscow deployed widespread aerial assaults using missiles and drones.
The assault commenced near 1:30 am local time and persisted for several hours. Ukraine’s Air Force reported Russia launched approximately 41 ballistic missiles and 125 combat drones, with most strikes concentrated in Kyiv and adjacent suburbs.

Ukrainian emergency services confirmed multiple fires broke out across five districts of Kyiv, affecting residential buildings, commercial facilities, and industrial installations. First responders rescued several individuals from blazes, though one person was recovered deceased. Additional fire reports emerged from Solomyanskyi, Desnianskyi, and Dnipro regions.
Russian Defense Ministry statements cited targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure during the strike. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated that the majority of missiles and drones were directed toward Kyiv.
In a recent X post, Zelenskyy documented Russia’s intensified assaults this week: “Over 1,450 drones, more than 1,640 precision aerial bombs, and 99 missiles of diverse calibers have been unleashed against Ukraine.”
The operation follows a Ukrainian retaliatory strike earlier this week targeting Russian warehouses and energy infrastructure. This marks another in ongoing large-scale Russian assaults on the capital amid persistent pressure on Kyiv’s air defense capabilities.
Patriot air defense systems remain critical for intercepting ballistic missiles, though Ukrainian officials emphasize critical shortages of interceptor stocks. U.S. President Donald Trump announced this month that Washington would authorize Patriot interceptor production permits for Ukraine, though implementation timelines and locations remain undisclosed.
