Ukraine says Russia fired 160 drones overnight, killing at least one and wounding dozens

Ukraine’s Armed Forces said Russia launched 160 drones across the country overnight, along with a cruise missile fired from a drone. Ukrainian officials also reported a strike on an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region.

Police said a strike on Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district injured eight people after a nine-storey residential building caught fire and had to be evacuated. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said those receiving treatment included a 64-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman with burns, as well as a 23-year-old woman with shrapnel wounds.

In Zaporizhzhia, a young mother and her 10-year-old son were among those wounded in a major Russian attack, according to Ukrainian officials.

Dnipro and Odesa were also targeted in attacks on Thursday and overnight into Friday. Russian strikes have increasingly focused on logistics hubs, warehouses and critical infrastructure. Dnipro endured three separate attacks on Thursday, including strikes on food warehouses that killed people and injured five others, while an official in Odesa reported damage to infrastructure.

A separate deadly Russian drone attack on Thursday evening killed one person and wounded two others in the Kyiv region, damaging 17 sites across the Bucha, Fastiv and Obukhiv districts, regional official Tymur Tkachenko said.

At least five people were killed and 67 others, including children, wounded when a shopping centre in the industrial city of Pavlohrad was struck. Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional military administration, said the attacks destroyed shops, retail premises and vehicles, leaving part of a street in the city centre devastated. He said 90% of the damaged facilities were commercial properties and that children aged four to 17 were receiving medical treatment.

Ukraine reports strike on Saratov oil refinery

Ukrainian drones reportedly struck the Saratov oil refinery, while another attack sparked a fire at a logistics centre operated by Russian e-commerce company Ozon. Saratov regional governor Roman Busargin reported a drone threat in the area, while Ozon later confirmed an attack on its logistics hub and the resulting fire.

As winter approaches, Russia and Ukraine continue to target each other’s energy infrastructure. Russia has focused its attacks on Ukraine’s electricity and energy systems, while Ukraine has largely struck oil and gas facilities in Russia.
