Ukrainian military forces executed precision strikes on oil infrastructure facilities near Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Friday evening, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In a post on X, Zelenskyy confirmed the attack targeted “port oil infrastructure generating revenue for Russia’s war efforts.” He noted successful strikes on Kronstadt, a strategically significant military hub, located over 850 kilometers from Ukraine’s border. Russian Governor Alexander Drozdenko of Leningrad Oblast reported that dozens of Ukrainian drones were intercepted over the region, with debris impacting the port of Vysotsk.
This development follows Moscow’s large-scale aerial assault on Kyiv earlier in the week, which involved 570 aircraft assets—including four Zircon missiles, 24 Iskander ballistic missiles, and 496 Shahed drones—resulting in at least 30 fatalities and extensive damage across the capital. Kyiv’s mayor characterized the attack as Russia’s “most devastating strike to date.”
Separately, Russian forces targeted Ukraine’s Poltava region Saturday, striking Naftogaz Group gas production facilities, per CEO Sergii Koretskyi. A fire erupted at the site, halting operations, though damage assessments remain pending.
Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to pressure Russia’s energy sector, causing nationwide fuel shortages in both Russia and occupied territories. Recent strikes underscore intensified hostilities, with Kyiv increasingly focusing on undermining Moscow’s economic and military capabilities through strategic infrastructure operations.
