An extensive drone assault, comprising 650 unmanned aerial vehicles, struck Moscow during the night, leading to one fatality as reported by Russian officials on Tuesday.
TASS, the Russian state news agency, indicated that this bombardment ranked as the second most significant drone attack on Moscow and its vicinity over the preceding two years.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that Russian defenses intercepted the majority of the 650 drones aimed at the capital, with 105 of them being neutralized in close proximity to the city.
In recent months, both Ukraine and Russia have intensified their long-range missile and drone strikes against civilian and industrial infrastructure, encompassing energy facilities, transportation networks, port installations, and vessels in the Black Sea.
The assault resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man in a village on Moscow’s periphery, as confirmed by regional governor Andrei Vorobyov, who also noted damage to multiple residences.
According to Ria Novosti, the strikes injured six individuals.
Russia has announced intentions to escalate its strikes on infrastructure targets, particularly in Kyiv, as the winter season nears.
