“During the night shift, seven people lost their lives in the strike,” governor of the Tambov region Evgeniy Pervyshov reported on Telegram. A total of 28 drones were also intercepted and shot down during the attack, he added.
He mentioned that 25 individuals were hurt in the incident, with seven of them in serious condition due to shrapnel wounds.
According to Pervyshov, this was the most significant and brutal attack on Tambov region in terms of the number of drones used and the casualties incurred.
In the Moscow region, governor Andrei Vorobyov stated that eight individuals injured in the strikes on the Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal were in serious condition.
Additionally, a total of 48 drones were shot down in the Moscow region overnight, and an oil depot was hit by a falling drone, causing the most severe consequences, as per Vorobyov’s statement.
“Firefighters, emergency services, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations are still working at the scene,” he wrote on Telegram. He did not provide further details regarding the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine had targeted an oil facility.
Ukraine has recently increased its long-range drone attacks on Russia’s critical energy infrastructure, leading to widespread fuel shortages. Earlier this month, Kyiv claimed that nearly 43% of Russia’s oil refining capacity had been disabled as a result of these attacks. However, the BBC has not independently verified this figure.
Ukraine considers Russian oil and gas facilities as legitimate targets, given Moscow’s heavy reliance on fossil fuel exports to fund its full-scale invasion, which commenced in February 2022.
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently admitted that fuel shortages were caused by Ukrainian attacks and signed a bill aimed at increasing domestic fuel supplies in early July.
