Elena Bonvicini founded EB Denim during the pandemic, initially as a project focused on reconstructing vintage denim. Now, she is expanding this ethos of reinvention into physical retail with the brand’s inaugural flagship store.

After five years in downtown Los Angeles, EB Denim relocated last year to its new 6,000-square-foot headquarters at 217 La Brea Avenue. This expansive space serves as a multifaceted hub, integrating a retail concept, creative studio, fitting area, operational center, and warehouse for both wholesale and e-commerce fulfillment, making it central to the brand’s growth strategy.

The brand’s direct-to-consumer e-commerce business has seen a 217 percent year-to-date increase compared to last year. This strong momentum supports EB Denim’s upcoming launch in 10 Nordstrom locations starting mid-July. The company’s business is projected to reach an eight-figure valuation by 2026.

Bonvicini collaborated with designer Becky Hearn on the interior, which thoughtfully combines original 1920s details such as large windows, archways, and tiles with modern, unexpected elements. These include a central bottleneck tree for air filtration, vibrant pink walls, a matching pink-carpeted staircase, and sleek silver chrome fixtures.

Bonvicini believes the space signifies a new era for work and physical retail, offering customers an intimate, behind-the-scenes view of the business. She described the integrated environment as “very nostalgic,” drawing comparisons to Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory or the ambiance of MTV Cribs.

This ethos of transparency and immersion extends beyond the design, shaping how the company engages with its community. The flagship has fostered stronger relationships with stylists, editors, influencers, and loyal customers by offering a personalized, appointment-driven shopping experience focused on denim fit and customization.

“The most special part is our retail presence at the front, allowing us daily interaction with customers,” Bonvicini stated.

Consolidating design, fittings, content creation, and marketing under a single roof has significantly accelerated product development and enabled the brand’s 15-person team to respond quickly. This direct connection with customers is fundamentally reshaping the company’s operational approach.

“It’s completely different when you witness real-life demand for the product,” Bonvicini remarked. “I think it ignites the team; everyone gets excited with a big sale and heavy foot traffic.”

This direct interaction provides the team with clearer insights into customer preferences regarding colors and fits, guiding future product decisions. It offers a deeper understanding of consumer behavior beyond what online sales data alone can reveal, benefiting EB Denim’s wholesale partners as well.

Key insights gained include the need for more petite inseams and the brand’s ability to transcend typical age demographics. While EB Denim initially built relationships with young Hollywood figures like Kaia Gerber and Kylie Jenner—whom Bonvicini identifies as one of their biggest customers—the flagship attracts a wide array of ages, highlighting the universal appeal of well-fitting jeans.

“You receive feedback in a much more tangible way,” she explained. “Ultimately, we aim to create the best possible product, and you’ll miss crucial insights if you’re not interacting with the people wearing it.”

In an increasingly digital-first industry, Bonvicini noted that operating this hybrid retail space has fostered a renewed sense of connection and perspective.

“I felt a significant void in my connection with customers,” she revealed, adding, “Since we moved into this space, the business has literally doubled. There’s a certain magic in genuinely getting to know customers, hosting events, meeting them, and building those relationships.”

Looking ahead, EB Denim plans to open a store in New York City, though Bonvicini is currently seeking the ideal location.

“Even as an L.A.-based brand, our customer base in New York is even larger,” she stated, expressing a desire to offer products in person there. “I believe it’s a formula that genuinely works.”
