US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, an evangelical Christian and a vocal supporter of Zionism and Israeli settlements, has accused the British government of “Jew hate” following comments by Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband. Miliband, who is Jewish, published a video in which he described meetings with people on the ground in Gaza and said the humanitarian and medical situation was “horrific”, citing blocked medicines and children’s deaths while awaiting treatment. He argued that the accounts reinforced the need for the United Kingdom to act more decisively.

Responding to the video, Huckabee wrote on the social platform X: “The Brits have lost it. The Jew hate of their government knows no boundaries and knows no facts.”

Israel’s foreign ministry also challenged Miliband’s account, insisting there were “no restrictions whatsoever” on medicines entering Gaza and highlighting the volume of medical supplies admitted since the October 2025 ceasefire.

However, recent assessments by international humanitarian agencies contradict the Israeli position. On 2 September, the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported that critical laboratory and diagnostic supplies “remain restricted” and that it has been barred from sending prosthetic and rehabilitation equipment into Gaza for more than two years.

OCHA, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, has similarly documented restrictions and delays affecting the entry of health commodities, together with severe shortages of medicines and medical supplies.
The diplomatic confrontation comes as Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s government prepares a “comprehensive” response to Israel’s accelerating settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank. Proposed measures include a ban on trade in goods produced in illegal settlements and targeted sanctions against individuals and entities involved in expansion. Miliband has warned that UK companies must not “finance, construct or advertise” new Israeli settlements.
The Foreign Office noted that it has allocated nearly £318 million (≈ $430 million) over three years to protect Jewish communities and combat anti‑Semitism. It did not directly address Huckabee’s accusation.
