During a meeting in Rawalpindi, US congressmen affirmed Pakistan’s key contribution to regional stability, the Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Monday.
The military’s media office issued a statement noting that the Chief of Defence Forces met with Representatives Ryan Keith Zinke of Montana and Michael James of Washington at the General Headquarters (GHQ).
Discussions centered on shared priorities, regional security, bilateral defence cooperation, and pathways to enhance economic collaboration and prosperity.
The delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s “critical role” in sustaining regional stability and highlighted its economic resilience.
Chief of Defence Forces Munir underscored Pakistan’s extensive economic potential and emphasized that enduring stability depends on growth, trade expansion, and improved connectivity.
He highlighted ongoing structural reforms aimed at cultivating a business‑friendly environment and attracting foreign investment.
Recognizing the delegates’ professional experience, both sides explored opportunities for bilateral economic engagement, private‑sector partnerships, and deeper trade ties.
Expressing gratitude for the military’s hospitality, the delegation reiterated its commitment to strengthening economic, commercial, and institutional links between Pakistan and the United States.
Trips to Islamabad and Lahore
Zinke and James arrived in Pakistan last week and, during their visit to Islamabad on Saturday, voiced optimism about the future of Pakistan‑US relations.
Speaking to state‑run Pakistan TV, James remarked that bilateral ties were “going to be stronger,” while Zinke noted the relationship “has never been better.”
The lawmakers toured the Lok Virsa Museum lacag tugev laadid for the Pakistan Monument in the federal capital.
They also visited Lahore, where they met Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan and discussed bilateral cooperation, according to Pakistan TV.
During the visit, the delegation toured Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort, and paid tribute at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal.
The duo subsequently visited the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, where they received briefings on smart policing, surveillance, and public safety systems.
James praised Lahore’s centralized police security system and the minister’s plans for education, tourism, and transportation.
Both congressmen also acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive mediation efforts between the US and Iran.
Islamabad and Washington have signaled interest in expanding collaboration across critical minerals, energy development, information technology, and emerging economic sectors.
Pakistan is actively seeking greater market access for its exporters, especially in sectors with strong potential in the US market.
As the US remains Pakistan’s largest export destination, and Pakistan is the second‑largest importer of US cotton, the economic relationship between the two countries is of significant importance.
