The United States mounted a stunning rally on the final day to overcome the Internationals and claim an 11th straight Presidents Cup title.
The home team, featuring eight of the world’s top 11 ranked players, entered Sunday trailing by three points and aimed to prevent just a second loss since the event began 32 years ago.
They dominated the singles session, winning nine of the 12 matches to clinch a 17-13 victory at Medinah—the same venue where Europe staged its legendary Ryder Cup comeback in 2012.
Jacob Bridgeman delivered the clinching moment by sinking a four-foot par putt on the 18th hole for a one-up win against Australia’s Min Woo Lee.
Additional victories came from Cameron Young, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Chris Gotterup, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, and Jackson Koivun.
“I told the guys last night that unpredictable things happen here. Medinah has a history of surprises,” said US captain Brandt Snedeker, a member of the 2012 team defeated by Europe.
“All these players fought for each other, for their country, and for this team.”
International captain Geoff Ogilvy remarked: “The US team came out aggressively, as we expected.
“It was a tightly contested day. If some of our one-down situations had flipped to one-up, the dynamics could have shifted dramatically, potentially altering the momentum.”
US President Donald Trump attended as honorary chairman, greeting the players and delivering a speech before the matches commenced.
