United Torah Judaism (UTJ) Member of Knesset Yitzhak Pindrus, ranked third on his party’s list, criticized the election of Amir Ohana as Knesset Speaker during an appearance on the Al HaPerek podcast, citing Ohana’s affiliation with the LGBT community.
In the interview, Pindrus expressed that the election of the Knesset Speaker at the start of the term was, in his opinion, a mishap that constituted a desecration of God’s name. “They say that he who takes counsel from the elders does not stumble. I was not a Member of Knesset yet back then, but to the best of my knowledge, they did not receive the approval of the Gedolei Yisrael for this,” he remarked.
Following these statements, Nimrod Gorenstein, chairman of the Association for LGBTQ Equality in Israel (Aguda), responded strongly. “Member of Knesset Yitzhak Pindrus, the man who previously claimed we are more dangerous than Hamas, is now asserting that LGBTQ individuals must not hold key public positions. Just two weeks before the elections, he is once again using our community to amplify hatred and drum up votes,” Gorenstein stated.
“And these words have a price, only he isn’t the one paying it. This week, a man was beaten on the street in Jaffa because he is gay, and two weeks prior, another young man was punched at a hotel in Jerusalem.”
According to Gorenstein, the Aguda has filed an official complaint with the Knesset Ethics Committee regarding Pindrus’s inciting remarks.
This is a developing story.
