V/H/S Franchise Expands With SCP Foundation-Inspired Installment Slated for 2027

The found-footage horror series V/H/S is set to continue with a new entry drawing on the internet-born SCP Foundation mythology.

Launched in 2012, the V/H/S films are anthology projects presented through faux-real found footage, with each installment built from separate horror segments. The franchise has produced eight features to date, with contributors including Johannes Roberts (Primate), Gareth Evans (The Raid), and Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange).

Per Variety, the upcoming V/H/S: SCP will weave SCP Foundation lore into its narrative. Originating in the mid-2000s, the SCP Foundation is a collaborative fiction universe that catalogs the work of a covert group tasked with securing and studying paranormal entities known as anomalies or SCPs.

The publication notes the new film will be framed as “recovered field documentation” from the foundation, with individual segments tracing distinct SCP cases. Its release is planned for 2027.

The project reflects the growing impact of internet culture on horror, as several recent successes have mined memes and online trends. A prominent example is Backrooms, Kane Parsons’ adaptation of a “creepypasta” story that has since spawned fan works, web series, and games.

Another digital figure is also headed to theaters, with Weapons director Zach Cregger confirmed to be writing a film centered on the Siren Head character.

The found-footage style rose to prominence in the late 1990s via The Blair Witch Project, which claimed to present lost footage of filmmakers hunting the witch legend. A fresh entry in that series was recently confirmed.
