Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Poised for Global Stardom, Predicts Veteran Kris Srikkanth

At just 15 years of age, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has rapidly emerged as a standout talent in Indian cricket. The young batsman grabbed national attention during the Duleep Trophy 2026 semifinal between East Zone and Central Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1 in Bengaluru, where he delivered an impressive 92 off 81 balls in the first innings. His follow-up contribution of 40 runs in the second innings further solidified East Zone’s victory, which they secured by four wickets.

Former India captain Kris Srikkanth has voiced immense confidence in Sooryavanshi’s future trajectory. Highlighting the profound impact the teenager has already made on cricket enthusiasts, Srikkanth noted that Sooryavanshi etched his name in the record books as the youngest Duleep Trophy half-century scorer. Achieving this milestone at 15 years and 157 days, with a fifty coming off just 42 balls, he surpassed the previous record set by Laxman Singh, who reached fifty at 16 years and 23 days back in 1969.

“He’s playing outstandingly well. He must be encouraged and never be discouraged. If he’s moulded properly, he’ll be a superstar in the making. He’ll bring Test cricket back to its glory. Everyone watched the Duleep Trophy because of him. Even my wife is watching because of him. He’ll be a big asset going forward for World cricket ,” said Srikkanth on his YouTube channel.

Sooryavanshi’s performances across formats

The robust 92-run knock marked Sooryavanshi’s second first-class half-century. His highest first-class score of 93 was registered for Bihar against Meghalaya in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Plate Group. Furthermore, in the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal against North East Zone, Sooryavanshi contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 8 runs and claiming 2 wickets for 11 runs as East Zone triumphed by an innings and 210 runs.

Srikkanth expanded on Sooryavanshi’s versatility across formats and his potential to dominate international cricket. The former captain was unequivocal about the teenager’s preparedness for elite competition and his capacity to deliver consistently against high-quality bowling.

“He played incredibly well. How can people even doubt whether this boy is capable of playing higher-level cricket? He can play every level of cricket, and he is going to rule world cricket shortly in all formats. He’s smashing medium pacers with no worries for straight sixes in red-ball cricket. He’s toying with the bowlers,” Srikkanth said.

Sooryavanshi’s stellar form extended well beyond the domestic circuit. He amassed 151 runs across three matches against Zimbabwe, earning the Player of the Series award as India secured a 3-0 series victory. His IPL 2026 campaign with the Rajasthan Royals was equally remarkable, as he accumulated 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30, featuring one century and five fifties. He concluded the tournament as the leading run-scorer and smashed 72 sixes, earning a host of accolades including the Orange Cap, MVP, Emerging Player, Super Striker, and Super Sixes awards.
