Lindsey Graham, a veteran Republican senator from South Carolina, passed away Saturday night, according to a statement released early Sunday morning by his office.

“On the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness,” the statement read. “His family extends gratitude for prayers and respectfully requests privacy during this profoundly challenging time.”
