WASHINGTON, Sept 3 (Reuters) – Vice President JD Vance announced on Thursday that the United States is looking into an airstrike that Iran claims hit a wedding celebration in the country.
“We are investigating this matter because we care and we want to find out what happened,” Vance said to reporters at a White House press briefing.
“If errors occur, that highlights a key distinction between our forces and Iran’s: when the U.S. military makes mistakes, it seeks to learn from them and improve,” Vance added.
Iranian officials reported that four individuals were killed and almost 70 injured when the strike hit a residence during a wedding ceremony. Iranian state television added on Thursday that a 22‑year‑old woman who had been hospitalized later succumbed to her injuries, raising the death toll to five.
The U.S. military stated that while it is aware of Iran’s allegations, it maintains that it does not intentionally target civilians.
