Virat Kohli Confirms Permanent Retirement from Test Cricket: “I am done with it”]
Since announcing his retirement from Test cricket ahead of India’s series against England in 2025, Virat Kohli has consistently been linked with a potential return to the longest format of the game.
At a promotional event in New Delhi on Sunday, Kohli was asked directly about the possibility of reversing his decision. The former Indian captain responded with a decisive statement that effectively ended any speculation about resuming his Test career.
“I am done with it. Thank you,” Kohli said, leaving no ambiguity about his standing decision to step away from red-ball cricket.
Kohli Centers on White-Ball Cricket Moving Forward
While his Test career has concluded, Kohli continues to be a key figure in India’s limited-overs setup. He was named in India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, though his participation remains conditional on fitness clearance.
Rehabilitation Process Underway
Kohli’s absence from international cricket has been attributed to recurring injury issues, including a hamstring problem sustained during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL playoffs campaign. This injury also caused him to miss India’s recent ODI series against Afghanistan.
The BCCI has been overseeing his recovery process, with sports science personnel from the Centre of Excellence visiting him in England to monitor his progress. Kohli will now report to the CoE in Bengaluru for a final fitness assessment following his appearance at Sunday’s event.
Upon successful completion of the evaluation, Kohli could feature in India’s ODI fixtures against England later this year.
