The innings marked a landmark moment. Kohli became only the second player after Tendulkar to breach the 15,000-run threshold in ODI cricket. Additionally, he overtook Tendulkar’s record for the most runs scored in home conditions.

Later in the innings, Kohli surpassed another Tendulkar benchmark. Surpassing the legend’s 6,976 home-condition runs, Kohli’s unbeaten 139 easily cleared the mark.

Kohli plays down personal milestones
Despite the magnitude of the achievement, Kohli stressed that records do not dictate his mindset.

“For me, Sachin paaji is always going to be Sachin paaji. MS Dhoni is always going to be MS Dhoni in terms of being my first captain. These things cannot change inside me. I have never looked at myself as a guy who has established and achieved. You never really get to a position where you say that’s it. I’ve done it,” Kohli stated.
“You can be content, but if you put your head down and you are humble enough to perform and prepare and just do the right things in sport, from an ego perspective, you can never get to a position saying, ‘I’m better than everyone else’. Because that’s the end. He revolutionised the game in his time. And that, for me, is way beyond numbers and comparisons. The impact he left on people will never be forgotten,” Kohli added, noting that milestones are a byproduct of staying committed to his role for India.

A record 55th ODI century for Kohli
Kohli’s innings also marked his 55th ODI century, further solidifying his record for the most hundreds in men’s ODI cricket.
His century arrived in just 74 balls, after which he accelerated in the final overs to dismantle the opposition bowling.
The knock also reflected an evolution in Kohli’s batting philosophy. He acknowledged adapting his game to balance aggression with control has been a key challenge in this phase of his career.
“I got a challenge at this stage of my career to kind of up the ante and play a gear or two higher,” he remarked.

Captain Shubman Gill** contributed a crucial 110, setting the tone for India’s chase following West Indies’ competitive 295/7. After Gill’s dismissal, Kohli took over, ensuring a smooth conclusion to the chase without any late-stage pressure.
For West Indies, Justin Greaves’ century (101) laid a strong foundation, with John Campbell and Amir Jangoo also making valuable contributions. However, India’s collective response proved overwhelming.
