Virginia Tech’s official visit weekend began with a significant addition as in-state tight end Sam Faniel (Richmond) announced his commitment to the Hokies on Saturday. Later that evening, head coach James Franklin continued the momentum by securing a pledge from three-star offensive lineman Luke Braham.
While Braham’s commitment may appear unexpected, the connection between him and Virginia Tech runs deeper than recent headlines suggest. Offensive line coach Matt Moore has maintained a longstanding relationship with the prospect, dating back to Moore’s tenure at West Virginia prior to joining the Hokies last season. Braham, who plays at University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia, is a 6-foot-5, 260-pound standout at offensive tackle.
Despite hailing from the heart of West Virginia’s football territory, Braham selected Virginia Tech over the Mountaineers and Rutgers, citing his comfort with Moore’s system and the program’s vision. Though his long-term position in Blacksburg remains uncertain, his physical measurements and high school film—showcasing a dominant run-blocking presence—suggest versatility for the next level.
Braham becomes the 17th commitment in Virginia Tech’s 2027 recruiting class and the second offensive lineman, joining four-star prospect Kaden Buchanan of Lebanon, Tennessee. The Hokies continue to build momentum in their recruiting efforts ahead of the upcoming season.
