Major Wall Street firms including Cantor Fitzgerald, TD Cowen, and Compass Point are advising clients to view the recent $6.4 billion Binance hack—the largest in crypto history—as a buying opportunity rather than a cause for alarm.

In research notes released Friday, analysts maintained that the incident is unlikely to derail the broader cryptocurrency market’s ongoing recovery. They characterized the resulting price drop as a temporary dip that presents an attractive entry point for investors seeking exposure to digital assets through regulated channels.

Cantor Fitzgerald’s Ramsey El-Assal emphasized that investors should “be buyers on weakness,” pointing to rapid industry response efforts that successfully froze approximately $3 billion of the stolen funds. Tether froze over $1.5 billion, Circle secured about $800 million, and Ripple contributed roughly $200 million in frozen assets.

El-Assal expects shares of major crypto-related companies like Coinbase, Robinhood, and Strategy to rebound once market panic subsides. He noted that while the situation is challenging, “this is not 2022,” referencing the more severe market conditions from previous years.

TD Cowen’s Lance Vitanza echoed similar sentiments, arguing that the security breach primarily exposed vulnerabilities in Binance’s own systems rather than fundamental flaws in Bitcoin’s underlying technology. He recommended the selloff as an opportunity to increase positions in both Bitcoin and publicly traded companies that hold it.

Compass Point analysts Ed Engel and Michael Donovan confirmed that Binance maintains “more than enough liquidity to cover the hole” created by the hack. However, they noted that reimbursing customers could strain stablecoin supplies and potentially benefit competitors like Coinbase and Hyperliquid. The team is monitoring the $75,000 to $77,000 Bitcoin price range as a critical support level.

The strategic advice to favor stocks over direct token ownership stems from the perception that regulated, exchange-listed companies provide crypto exposure without the custody risks highlighted by this incident. These proxies typically show stronger resilience and faster recovery when market sentiment stabilizes.

Despite the generally optimistic outlook from brokerage firms, some voices urge caution. Moody’s Ratings Vice President Cristiano Ventricelli highlighted the elevated cybersecurity risks associated with hot wallets and warned about the dangers of concentrating too much activity within large, centralized platforms.

Venticalli cautioned that the long-term implications will depend heavily on factors including actual losses incurred, affected counterparties, asset recovery efforts, and crucially, whether this incident triggers broader market disruption or erosion of confidence.

Binance has allocated $6.34 billion specifically to cover customer losses and has assured users that their assets remain secure. Law enforcement agencies including the Secret Service and FBI have launched investigations, with blockchain analytics firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributing the attack to North Korea’s infamous TraderTraitor hacker group.
