Walton Goggins’ Neo-Western Masterpiece Officially Returns as One of the Biggest Streaming Hits in America

Taylor Sheridan has become one of the go‑to names for fans seeking the best neo‑western television stories. After the success of his American Frontier trilogy, Sheridan revitalized the genre with Yellowstone, which has since expanded into a sprawling franchise of spin‑offs, prequels, and sequels that keep audiences engaged with the Dutton family saga. Yet, before Yellowstone cemented itself as the premier neo‑western series, another show had already secured its place as a fan favorite.

That series is Justified, a neo‑western gothic crime drama that premiered on FX in March 2010. Created by Graham Yost and adapted from Elmore Leonard‘s stories about U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, Justified follows Givens as he returns to his Kentucky hometown to impose his own brand of justice while repeatedly crossing paths with figures from his past. Timothy Olyphant brilliantly brought Raylan to life in a star‑making role that’s become inseparable from his career, and Walton Goggins delivered a stellar supporting performance as Boyd Crowder.

Across its six‑season run, Justified maintained an exceptionally high level of critical acclaim, with ratings ranging from 93 % to a perfect 100 % on Rotten Tomatoes. Those ratings have continued to hold up as the series aged remarkably well. Years after its original run, viewers are returning for rewatches, despite the availability of newer neo‑western dramas. In the U.S., Justified is primarily available to stream on Hulu, but many fans purchase the series through Apple TV’s digital storefront. The demand has been enough to push Justified to No. 2 among the most‑watched shows on the platform.

Could ‘Justified: City Primeval’ Get a Sequel?

Justified‘s streaming resurgence has been building for some time, with the series occasionally reappearing on charts across several platforms. That sustained interest suggests fans remain deeply invested in Raylan Givens and would welcome his return. The series received a second life eight years after its original finale with Justified: City Primeval, a sequel that brought Olyphant back as Raylan Givens. However, the revival lasted only one season.

Justified: City Primeval ended on a cliffhanger that promised more, but its reception fell well short of that of the original series, ultimately making another season a difficult proposition for FX. Regardless, fans have continued to call for Raylan’s return, and the stars themselves have shown interest in returning. Promisingly, Olyphant has maintained a strong working relationship with FX, most recently starring in the network’s well‑received sci‑fi series Alien: Earth and set to return for its upcoming second season. There hasn’t been a significant update on the future of Justified in some time, but the show’s continued success on streaming could eventually give FX a reason to reopen those conversations and give Raylan Givens another shot at justice.
