Retired British couple Jane and Alan Kelvey recounted their tense encounter with the Russian frigate *Admiral Grigorovich* to BBC’s *Newsnight* following an unexpected maritime confrontation.
“They gave five horn blasts, signaling, ‘Have you seen us?’ Jane explained. We promptly adjusted course two degrees port, ensuring visibility of our intentional maneuver to confirm awareness of their presence.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the yacht executed a “dangerous approach” toward the warship. After repeated radio attempts and deployment of warning flares went unanswered, its crew discharged rifle rounds into the vessel’s path.
Authorities categorized the event as an “isolated incident,” clarifying no connection to the Sunday seizure of a Russian shadow fleet tanker in the Channel.
