Washington DC Temperature Spikes Prompt Summer Parade Cancellation
Organizers of Saturday’s Independence Day parade in Washington DC have indefinitely postponed the event due to unbearably high temperatures. With sweltering heat and humidity levels pushing records, the National Park Service issued an extreme heat warning that forced the cancellation.
The 250th anniversary celebration, originally set for 10:30 AM, was postponed after authorities recommended precautions for participants and attendees.
Extremely high temperatures, recently soaring to as much as 102°F (39°C), have caused logistical challenges, rolled electricity grids, and renewed concerns about public safety beyond the parade. Officials urged everyone to stay hydrated and take breaks in cooler areas.
Parade organizers emphasized the impact on city events, including the Great American State Fair on the National Mall and Freedom 250, which reported serious health issues among visitors.
President Trump is still scheduled to deliver remarks at the fair on Saturday evening, alongside military flyovers and a large fireworks display.
