Wendy Choo’s WWE Exit Sparks Major Backstage Shock

WWE released ten NXT and developmental talents this week, with the names starting to emerge on Friday evening.

While several exits surprised fans, one particular release also caused a stir backstage.

Wendy Choo’s release reportedly shocked many within the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

“The entire Performance Center was shocked by Wendy Choo’s release,” Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com reported.

Choo was among those released on Friday, departing alongside Adriana Rizzo, PJ Vasa, Jasper Troy, and others.

The 34-year-old Choo, real name Karen Yu, first appeared for WWE as Karen Q during the 2018 Mae Young Classic and officially signed in February 2019.

Throughout her tenure, she underwent several character changes. Introduced as Mei Ying in the Tian Sha stable in 2020 before the gimmick was dropped, she was later repackaged as Wendy Choo, the persona she became best known for in NXT.

She also competed in WWE Evolve, where she captured the WWE Evolve Women’s Championship.

Her final match occurred at the August 25 NXT taping at the WWE Performance Center, where she lost a dark match to Karmen Petrovic.

Choo also faced Maxxine Dupri in a match taped for WWE Main Event on August 17, which she lost.
