AEW star Chris Jericho has explained why he selected his band Fozzy’s song “Judas” as his wrestling entrance theme.
The track has become an iconic element of Jericho’s persona since his WWE departure and NJPW return in 2017, predating the launch of AEW in 2019.
“When we formed Fozzy in 2000, the goal was to stand apart from WWE and build our own identity. It was challenging because I was both the wrestler and the band’s frontman, leading people to dismiss it as a side project.”
“We had to work twice as hard to earn respect. After I left WWE, I couldn’t use ‘Break the Walls Down’ in New Japan, so I turned to ‘Judas.’ It shares the same groove and intensity needed for a great entrance track.”
“It worked, so when AEW began I decided to keep using my own song for my ring walk. I believe this marks one of the first instances where a performer sang their own entrance music.”
“The choice felt natural: ‘Judas’ had just been released, it carried the right vibe and attitude, and the fans embraced it.”
The August 18, 2021 episode of Dynamite highlighted how integral “Judas” has become to Jericho’s presentation, as MJF once requested that Jericho enter the ring in silence before their match.
That plan backfired when the AEW crowd sang Jericho’s entrance song, drowning out the silence.
Jericho performed the song live at the 2023 and 2024 All In London events, taking the stage at Wembley Stadium.
Although Jericho has not been officially confirmed for a match on August 30, fans anticipate he could achieve a three‑peat of Wembley Stadium performances.
