Sheldon Creed leads the NASCAR O’Reilly Series Chase for the Championship through three races with Haas Factory Team but will move to Sam Hunt Racing in 2027 where the aim is to secure a playoff spot.

“I have zero complaints, and while the move isn’t my first preference, business viability ultimately outweighs on‑track results and performance,” Creed said during his introductory press conference Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Funding in motorsports must cover extensive engineering costs and driver salaries, and individual teams vary dramatically in capital availability.

Sam Hunt Racing offers Creed a sustainable platform that can support a career lasting many years while providing opportunities to compete across multiple series.

“Racing for Richard Childress, Joe Gibbs, Haas, and recently victory lane gave me valuable experience, and being the points leader several times has been immensely rewarding,” Creed noted. “Even though I’ve never secured a Cup series ride, that remains my ultimate goal, yet the current path focuses on stability.”

“If I don’t receive a Cup invitation, Sam’s squad provides a reliable environment to drive for more than fifteen seasons and build a family life,” he added.

The decision prioritizes long‑term viability and career longevity for both men.

Owner Jason Hunt highlighted that partnering with Creed brings fresh perspective and practical knowledge to Sam Hunt Racing.
“We’ve known each other for years and can complement our careers effectively,” Hunt said. “The prospect of adding a proven driver strengthens our capacity to contend for championships later this season, including battles against Justin Allgaier, Carson Kvapil, and Jesse Love.”

Creed emphasized the importance of building a solid foundation for future growth.
“I consider myself a key building block for SHR’s push toward regular season contention. Together we’re shaping a future that could eventually compete for the NOAPS title.”

Both crews expressed confidence in maintaining their hands‑on involvement throughout the campaign.

“I’m confident in Sam, and he embodies the kind of dedication necessary to succeed in NASCAR,” Hunt remarked. “We’ll enjoy the challenges and the camaraderie ahead.”

Creed stressed that this shift does not affect Tokyo Honda’s partnership with Toyota; he joins as the No. 26 team’s driver, becoming a core asset for the Toyota factory operation.

“Toyota resources are exceptionally strong in our discipline,” Creed stated. “Having compiled experience with all manufacturers has given me a comprehensive understanding of team operations, and this knowledge will benefit the No. 26 and its crew chief Kris Bowen.”

Looking ahead, Creed intends to assess the results of Sam Hunt Racing for the forthcoming 2028 season and aims for sustained progress.
