WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks and the American Hockey League’s San Jose Barracuda, have announced that forward Cam Mitchell has agreed to return to the team for the 2026-27 season.
Mitchell, 25, joined the Thunder last March after completing his collegiate career. A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, he recorded four assists across 17 games during his initial stretch with the club. He earned his first professional point on March 24 in a game against Kansas City.
Before turning professional, Mitchell spent four seasons at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he accumulated 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 94 games. During his senior year, he was named an alternate captain for the Mavericks.
Mitchell also played five seasons of junior hockey, split between the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Spruce Grove Saints and the United States Hockey League’s Omaha Lancers. He finished his time with the Lancers by posting 57 points (18 goals, 39 assists) in 111 career games before committing to UNO.
