Serena Williams has withdrawn from her scheduled Wimbledon doubles partnership with sister Venus after a knee injury.
The American duo, who have claimed six Grand Slam doubles titles together, were slated to reunite on the All England Club courts for the first time since 2022 later on Saturday.
Williams, 44, was forced to pull out after a knee problem emerged during her loss to Australia’s Maya Jandle on Tuesday.
The 23‑time Grand Slam singles champion chose not to speak to the media following the match, with Wimbledon officials stating she was “not able to undertake” her duties.
“I’m heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles,” Serena posted on Instagramexternal.
“Returning to competition has been a gift, and playing alongside Venus again was a dream come true. I did everything I could to be ready, but unfortunately my knee isn’t ready for the challenge.”
More updates will follow.
