Woman Accused of Impersonating a Man to Deceive Women Released to House Arrest

After nearly two weeks in custody, the Petah Tikva Magistrate’s Court on Sunday ordered the release of a young woman suspected of impersonating a man to facilitate a deception scheme, placing her under house arrest for 10 days pending further proceedings.

Police have attributed allegations of rape and indecent acts to the suspect, and the State Attorney’s Office is anticipated to file a serious indictment in the near future.

During the bail hearing, the defendant revealed she had previously served as a police officer for two years, stating she had no criminal record and that her actions stemmed from a difficult period in her life.

“I have no criminal record. I was a police officer for two years. Everything I did was because I was in a low place in my life,” she said. “I want to go home. I do not intend to obstruct the investigation, I was a police officer and I know how things work.”

According to police, the complainants consented to the alleged acts under the belief that their partner was a man. Investigators suspect that, as part of those relationships, the suspect caused some women to perform sexual acts on themselves.

The investigation commenced on July 26, after several women in their 20s provided testimony at a police station. Each described a consistent pattern: a relationship that began online with an individual who introduced himself as ‘Orel Hazan.’

Police confirm that the individual behind the profile and male identity throughout the period was the same young woman. Authorities are examining whether the alleged pattern persisted for years and are working to determine if additional women were similarly harmed.

“I am glad that with the agreement of the police, my client was released under conditions. We are confident that once the facts become clear, the case will be closed with nothing.”
