Despite syndication’s declining relevance in modern wrestling, the Women of Wrestling (WOW) promotion is embracing a live TV format for its fifth season, introducing significant shifts to its operations. The move, detailed in Variety, positions WOW as part of a broader live-event strategy centered at Los Angeles’ L.A. Live complex.
After airing 35 episodes in Season 4, the format’s future remains fluid. With syndication handled by Paramount and no presence on Paramount+, exact air dates and episode counts for Season 5 remain undetermined. Platforms like YouTube, Pluto TV, and Facebook may influence the rollout schedule.
Jeanie Buss, co-owner of WOW alongside GLOW founder David McLane, will expand her on-camera involvement. A former L.A. Lakers owner and current promoter, Buss’s role reflects WOW’s push to integrate ownership figures into its narrative.
While WOW’s live-action format avoids the ratings spotlight of WWE or AEW, the promotion boasts a 93% weekly audience retention rate year-over-year and a 96% growth in social media followers since Season 1, per Variety. Specific metrics for audience return trends remain unspecified.
