Like many designers observing global events, Wooyoungmi’s Madam Woo draws inspiration from current world affairs. Rather than succumbing to despair, she envisions a more hopeful future through her spring 2027 collection. “She wanted to create something to really push the joy,” an interpreter said during the collection preview. “With lightness.” This optimistic vision emerged from imagining herself as a bird capable of crossing the world without boundaries.
The collection’s hopeful aesthetic debuted through madras suiting in mint green, dusty pink, and pale yellow—creating a beguiling sherbet hue palette. Pieces featured wide-leg peak lapel jackets with tailored shoulders, paired with argyle knits or shirts featuring retro paisley or novelty prints. Necklaces with stones completed the look, establishing an idiosyncratic preppy aesthetic.
The avian theme materialized through feather details adorning coat hems, sleeve cuffs, and jacket pockets. A standout piece featured sheer polyester-visose shirting that was pleated, pressed, then dyed—creating abstracted plumage when unfolded. silk shirts showcased traditional Korean minhwa prints with cranes and trees, while similar childlike designs appeared as patches on denim trucker jackets and pants.
The collection offered diverse outerwear options including sun-faded chore coats, piped pajama shirts, cropped track jackets, and distressed leather pieces. Styled head-to-toe with socks and brogues paired with striped shopping bags, the looks balanced sweetness with polished tailoring. Versatile pieces included roomy Bermuda shorts, patterned knit cardigans, and the sheer, pressed material elongated into flowing jackets.
While rooted in imaginative storytelling, Madam Woo emphasizes practicality: “the most important thing a designer can do is to create clothing men can wear right now, in the present.” This philosophy resonated with front-row attendees, who eagerly observed pieces descending the catwalk.
