Worcestershire claimed the upper hand on day one at Canterbury after dismissing Kent for 238, then progressing to 80‑2 by stumps.

Opening bowler Tom Taylor claimed 3‑55 for Worcestershire, and wicket‑keeper Henry Cullen snapped up five catches.

With promotion hopes at stake in Division Two, fourth‑placed Worcestershire won the toss and elected to field against second‑placed Kent under overcast conditions.

Worcestershire removed England opener Zak Crawley cheaply in the fourth over, as he nicked Ben Allison to second slip.

Adam Hose initially put the chance down, but recovered to scoop the ball inches from the ground.

Kent captain Daniel Bell‑Drummond top‑scored with 52, supported by Sam Northeast (43) and former Warwickshire player Chris Benjamin (40), but the home side imploded in the evening, surrendering their final five wickets for only 25 as bowlers Ben Allison, Matthew Waite and Adam Finch each claimed two wickets.

Hasan Mahmud struck twice in consecutive balls to slip Worcestershire to 26‑2, yet the visitors revived with an unbeaten 54‑run partnership between Dan Lategan (35*) and Adam Hose (24*).
