The event included a closing ceremony 90 minutes before kick-off, alongside a “let’s get ready to rumble” hype segment. Tom Cruise’s unexpected pre-game speech further contributed to the delay. Additional security measures for Donald Trump’s attendance caused long lines for media, volunteers, and entertainment staff.
Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, aims to become the first defending champions since Brazil in 1962, while Spain seeks a second World Cup title following their Euro 2024 win. Spain enters as favorites after defeating France 2-0 in the semi-finals, prompting coach Luis de la Fuente to retain the same starting XI. Argentina’s Lionel Scaloni made three tactical adjustments, benching Nahuel Molina, Giuliano Simeone, and Leandro Paredes for Gonzalo Montiel, Rodrigo De Paul, and Nico Gonzalez.
Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic will officiate the final, becoming the first from his country to do so in a World Cup final. He will be assisted by compatriots Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic.
