WWE reportedly contemplated altering the date of the 2027 Royal Rumble premium live event, but ultimately elected to maintain its original schedule and public announcement.
Internal discussions were held about the prospect of shifting the event from February 6 to February 20, 2027, to capitalize on promotional opportunities tied to Super Bowl weekend.
The proposal hinged on ESPN broadcasting the Super Bowl for the first time, potentially delivering substantial exposure for WWE across the network’s programming in the weeks leading up to the game.
It was anticipated that ESPN could heavily promote upcoming events during Super Bowl week and on game day, including WWE’s Royal Rumble, which would have occurred the weekend after the game under the proposed schedule.
Nonetheless, WWE chose not to implement the change for two principal reasons.
First, postponing the Royal Rumble by two weeks would have necessitated considerable adjustments to the company’s existing calendar and overall scheduling framework.
Additionally, the event’s location in Phoenix, Arizona, which is also set to host NBA All‑Star Weekend from February 19 to February 21, presented logistical complications.
Taking these logistical considerations into account, WWE decided to keep the originally scheduled February 6 date for the 2027 Royal Rumble.
WWE, in partnership with Arizona Sports & Events Alliance and Legends Global, today announced the 40th annual #RoyalRumble will be held on Saturday, February 6 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona1
