Austin Wells etched his name into the MLB record books during the New York Yankees’ 16‑1 victory on Sunday.

Despite not starting behind the plate, Wells entered the game as a pinch‑hitter for Ali Sánchez in the sixth inning with New York already leading 5‑0. He wasted no time contributing, driving in a run with a sacrifice fly. The decisive moment came in the eighth.

In the eighth, Wells launched a two‑run homer off Jovani Morán with no outs, then added another two‑run shot off position player Andruw Monasterio with two outs, extending the lead to 15 runs.

According to OptaSTATS, Wells became the first player in MLB history to pinch‑hit and then hit two home runs in a single inning.
