Will Warren’s position in the Yankees’ starting rotation looks increasingly insecure as the right-handed pitcher continues to struggle.
After a strong beginning to the 2026 MLB season, Warren has posted an ERA above 5.00 in each of the last three months heading into his Sunday start against the Red Sox.
Over that stretch, opposing batters have hit .304 with 13 home runs across 62 ⅔ innings.
His command has deteriorated, yielding an 8.04 K/9 and a 3.73 BB/9, a stark contrast to his early-season numbers.
Although Warren delivered his best August start against Houston by allowing just two earned runs over five innings, he was still pitching in and out of trouble, surrendering seven hits, a home run, and two walks.
Warren’s previous matchup against Boston adds to the concerns. On June 26 at Fenway Park, the Red Sox battered him for five earned runs on seven hits and three walks over 5 ⅔ innings in a 6-1 Yankees defeat.
Most alarming, Warren failed to record a single strikeout against 27 batters in that outing.
Beyond those back-to-back shutouts from Thursday and Friday, the Red Sox offense has been exceptionally hot lately.
The pinstripes’ rivals are averaging over five runs per game across their past 10 contests heading into Saturday’s doubleheader and have been particularly lethal against right-handed pitching.
Considering Warren’s recent difficulties limiting hard contact and keeping the ball in play, this matchup is difficult to trust.
