Yeah Yeah Yeahs Unveil Live Album and Accompanying Short Film ‘Hidden in Pieces’

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have officially released their new live album, Hidden in Pieces Live at the Royal Albert Hall, which is now available on digital platforms. Alongside the audio release, a 22-minute concert film directed by Barnaby Clay is currently streaming via the Criterion Channel. The visual component was captured at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles and will be screened in select cinemas globally throughout the month. Fans can also look forward to a physical edition of the album, slated for release on October 23 through Secretly Canadian. This release will feature the 13 tracks available today, as well as bonus recordings from their U.S. performances, which will simultaneously hit streaming services.

Frontwoman Karen O explained in a press statement that the project “was born out of a need to commune with our band and fan family in 2025, after the election.” She elaborated, “In the past, YYYs haven’t often chosen when to be back at it and out there, it often chooses us. It, being the times.”

She noted that the band developed their live arrangements during a brief residency at Sonic Ranch in Texas. Reflecting on the performance, she shared, “We felt the spirits of all legends past swirling around us. Nick [Zinner] remarked that he felt as though his fingers were guided on the guitar neck. The real alchemy happened when we played the hall, it clicked into place. All the shows we performed on this small tour were extraordinarily vulnerable.” Karen O also expressed gratitude to David Lynch “for his everything,” adding, “His passing came a month before we began this journey and the performance begins with an ode to his legacy.”

Director Barnaby Clay commented on his approach to the film, stating, “I wanted to create a film that not only captured the live performance but also felt close to the spirit of what the band was going for with their shows; something delicate and dream-like, like a precious memory, timeless, emotionally charged and shrouded in mystery.”

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ most recent studio effort prior to this was the 2022 album Cool It Down.
